Location: Cotton Ginning Research
Project Number: 3050-30600-001-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 31, 2025
End Date: Jul 30, 2026
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to develop and deliver agriculture, science, engineering, and technology-based outreach materials based on ARS research for K-12 students, teachers, and the general public. These materials expand K-12 agriculture education in rural, suburban, and urban communities by aligning with national and state education standards used in all classrooms.
Approach:
The Asombro Institute for Science Education team will continue to develop, teach, and distribute science education modules that they have developed for the project. These modules focus on agricultural production in the southwest and use tools developed by the ARS. In addition, they will lead three other activities, including:
1. Host at least four teacher workshops on K-12 education modules, including working with partners to deliver workshops in rural communities. Workshops will be a mix of virtual and in-person, with at least one in Nevada, Utah, or Arizona. Each participating teacher will receive a class set of materials for the lessons demonstrated in the workshop.
2. Continue the development of a new module on agricultural and energy production on croplands and rangelands in the southwest.
3. Update existing education modules as needed based on scientific research and/or student and teacher needs.
