Research Project: Development of the FPAC Soil Carbon Data Management Tools Suites and Systems that are Integrated into and Maintained on the USDA ARS Partnerships

Location: Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center

Project Number: 6020-21500-001-011-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Sep 30, 2024

Objective:
1. Develop a consistent data management platform for soil carbon data as part of the Soil Carbon Monitoring Network. 2. Develop tools to visualize data layers which display inventories, areas sampled, landuse relationships and climate signatures. 3. Utilize data to build a system which can promote spatially explicit estimates of soil carbon.

Approach:
ARS shall develop, maintain, and expand data management tools to support FPAC’s soil carbon efforts and provide technical oversight for data inventory, data QA/QC, visualization, basic analytics and sharing of soil carbon data. Additionally ARS will develop linkages to other data sources as requested (e.g. crop data layers, meteorological); and the access and utilization of the Partnerships for Data Innovations (PDI) commercial cloud environment, enterprise level software tools, and access to the PDI coordination and technology teams.
