Research Project: FY 2022 Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP) - Benchmark Watershed Assessment Studies (on croplands) El Reno

Location: Agroclimate and Hydraulics Research Unit

Project Number: 3070-13000-015-024-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Sep 2, 2022
End Date: Sep 30, 2027

1. Support replacement and maintenance of a network of soil moisture sensors in the Fort Cobb and Little Washita watersheds to collect data used for model calibration and to ensure accurate simulations of conservation practices (CPs) on soil and water resources. 2. Obtain data that contributes to the development of the database for modeling and measuring the impacts of selected CPs and land management. 3. Support travel for work pertinent to CEAP.

Field and watershed research will be focused around the Fort Cobb Experimental Watershed and the Little Washita River Experimental Watershed in the Upper Washita River Basin as well as the WRE within the Grazinglands Research Laboratory. Research will span surface hydrologic responses, including quality parameters, to conservation practices, and modeling tools. Soil moisture data will be used to calibrate and validate irrigation algorithms within the SWAT to ensure more reliable simulations of impacts of management practices on soil and water resources.
