Research Project: Analysis of Soybean Insect Pests and Pathogens They Vector

Location: Soybean/maize Germplasm, Pathology, and Genetics Research

Project Number: 5012-22000-023-016-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 23, 2026
End Date: Sep 29, 2029

Objective:
The primary objective of this collaborative project is to advance research on soybean pest populations and pathogens that they can transmit to soybean plants. These efforts will be supported by assistance with approaches to population and disease analyses, as well as access to critical resources, including laboratory instruments, chemical reagents, and shared scientific expertise. Additionally, the partnership will promote the joint development of competitive research proposals aimed at securing external funding to support long-term investigation and sustainable management of soybean diseases, and lead to co-authorship of scientific manuscripts.

Approach:
1. Establish Collaboration: We will define roles and responsibility of key collaborators and schedule regular meetings to align objectives, shared resources, draft manuscripts, and develop research milestones. 2. Approaches: Quantify insect numbers collected in insect suction traps spread across the Midwest, and characterize pathogen spread and host responses to insects and pathogens. 3. Proposal Development: We will prepare competitive research proposals targeting external funding opportunity.
