Research Project: Identifying Variance in Rangeland Conditions in Response to Grassland Biota and Management

Location: Pest Management Research

Project Number: 3032-30400-002-002-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2026
End Date: Sep 30, 2027

Objective:
Cooperator agrees to manage a project to understand how rangeland forage responds to variation in grassland biotic communities and management and publish a peer-reviewed article to communicate findings to the scientific and rangeland manager audiences.

Approach:
Cooperator will use standardized sampling of insects and plants across rangeland systems and on and off of prairie dog towns to quantify variation in rangeland health and interactions between cattle forage and rangeland biota. Sampling will include quantifications of forage biomass, measures of forage quality, and local insect communities that interact with forage status.
