Objective:
To develop management and genetic resistance strategies to mitigate or eliminate the economic impact of major barley pests in Maryland in particular virus diseases, as well as rusts, powdery mildew, net blotch spot blotch scald, and Fusarium head blight. Further, to keep barley a viable option for U.S. growers, and enhance value-added job-generating enterprises in the U.S.

Approach:
Cooperator will assess barley germplasm and varieties from other breeding programs as well as develop new germplasm having resistance to barley diseases using traditional as well as genomics-based technology.
