Research Project: Applying Novel Genomic Methods for Quantifying Insecticide Resistance Year 1

Location: Tropical Pest Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Unit

Project Number: 2040-22430-028-047-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2025
End Date: Aug 31, 2026

Objective:
Objective 1: Characterize Spinosad resistance alleles in known resistant Melon fly populations for the purpose of screening for these alleles in wild populations. Sequence Melon flies with and without pesticide resistance. Analyze data and compare suspect loci for variations between resistant and Spinosad susceptible flies.

Approach:
Cooperator will use funds to hire a junior faculty researcher to perform genetic analysis on existing samples, collect new samples, perform genetic analysis on new samples, and present and publish research results.
