Objective:
Develop management practices for economically and environmentally sustainable full life-cycle poultry production systems.

Approach:
Research will be focused on poultry waste management to ensure the economic and environmental sustainability of poultry production in Alabama and beyond. Specific areas planned for study include: developing new technologies for poultry litter utilization; refining the Alabama phosphorus index tool using established approaches detailed by Bolster et al., (2012) and Fiorellino et al., (2017); development of best management practices for poultry litter applications in agriculture fields design new computer-mediated marketplaces for animal-manure products to improve profitability for farmers and growers and improve resource use efficiency; and develop methods to utilize gypsum as a bedding material in poultry houses.
