Location: Sugarbeet Research
Project Number: 3060-21000-045-020-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Jun 30, 2024
Objective:
To evaluate root yield of genetic resources and breeding lines with improved traits such as pest resistance, sucrose content, impurity concentration and post-harvest storage.
To identify genes related to sugar productivity, pest resistance, quality, post-harvest storage and the critical physiological pathways.
To evaluate yield after applying different pesticides or herbicides.
Approach:
Plant sugarbeet genetic resources or breeding lines in multiple field conditions for evaluation of disease/insect resistance.
Treat sugarbeet field plots using different fungicides or insecticides for pest management, and herbicides for weed management in the field plots.
Collect data of post-harvest trait after roots were harvested and stored in piles under cold condition.
Genotyping genetic resources and conduct genetic analysis to identify genes affecting the target traits.
Comparing root yield of plots that were pesticides treated and non-treated to evaluate effects of different fungicides, insecticides and herbicides.
