Research Project: Genotypic Analyses of the USDA-National Plant Germplasm System Apple Collection

Location: Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research

Project Number: 3012-21000-017-014-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
Genotype 192 USDA National Plant Germplasm System apple accessions using the 20K Apple SNP array. Identify accessions that are true species representatives and hybrids based on genotypic data.

Approach:
Dried apple leaf samples for 192 accessions will be sent from the USDA National Plant Germplasm System apple collection to collaborator during the summer of 2022. Collaborator will extract DNA and provide genotypic analyses using the 20K SNP array. Results will be provided to USDA in spreadsheet format, indicating accession species trueness-to-type and/or hybrid relationships.
