Research Project: HOLL Plus Soybean Variety Development

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-044-021-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2022
End Date: Dec 31, 2024

Objective:
The objective of this proposal is to establish a soybean breeding and molecular selection program for development of high yielding maturity group III and IV soybean varieties containing high oleic/low linolenic traits, combined with additional composition traings ("HOLL plus") of interest.

Approach:
The research project involves developing a soybean breeding strategy that combines high oleic, low linolenic and other seed composition traits (low saturated fat, low raffinose, lopoxygenase null, and high vitamin E) into high yielding genetic backgrounds, targeted at maturity group III and IV. Existing soybean populations with these traits and high yield will be selected, and molecular selection and breeding strategies will be developed to manage the large number of genes associated with these traits.
