Research Project: Identification and Evaluation of Data Sets for Analysis of the Contribution of Prune Consumption to Bone Health

Location: Immunity and Disease Prevention Research

Project Number: 2032-51530-026-024-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2022
End Date: Nov 30, 2023

Objective:
The overall objective is to identify and evaluate available data sets, worldwide, for inclusion in an analysis of the association of prune consumption with bone health. Aim 1: Identify potential data sets. Aim 2: Evaluate data sets for inclusion in analysis.

Approach:
Resources will be leveraged through the UC Davis library to identify potential data sets through data citations and through literature searches for large human studies on bone health in which dietary data was collected. For data sets that are not public, access will be requested via the project's PIs or through formal application to the project's Data Access Committee, if one exists. Data sets will then be evaluated for suitability for future analysis based on the following criteria: food-level resolution of dietary data (e.g. prunes, not fruit), bone health endpoint (e.g. BMD, fracture, etc.), sample size, meta-data for known associations with bone health (e.g. sex, age, race/ethnicity, hormonal status, etc), machine learning readiness. Availability of additional mediators (microbiome, fecal pH, gut health markers, etc) will also be noted.
