Research Project: Genetic Approaches to Improve Wheat Aluminum Resistance in a Carbon-Use-Efficient Means

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-049-002-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2021
End Date: Aug 14, 2024

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research are 1) to isolate the genetic elements essential for wheat aluminum resistance; 2) to examine the genetic and molecular basis underlying their functions in wheat, and 3) to develop wheat cultivars with improved quality traits.

Approach:
The approaches include using molecular, biochemical, and genetic tools for gene isolation and functional analysis and using traditional breeding and genetic strategies for developing aluminum-resistant wheat cultivars.
