Research Project: 16S Metagenomic Sequencing Analysis

Location: Infectious Bacterial Diseases Research

Project Number: 5030-32000-233-008-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 12, 2021
End Date: Jul 11, 2023

Objective:
Analysis of bacterial 16S metagenome sequences of samples collected from experimental digital dermatitis lesions in sheep model collected at different timepoints and analyze the data for similarities/differences across timepoints in relation to bacterial invasion and skin pathology.

Approach:
Digital dermatitis lesions were experimentally induced in sheep model and samples collected at specific timepoints post inoculation. DNA was extracted and librabries were prepared and sequenced. Sequences will be analyzed by group (mock or infected) by timepoint, looking for correlation between bacterial community development, bacterial invasion in the tissues and pathological responses observed. This data will contribute to knowledge of the underlying pathogenesis of digital dermatitis lesions.
