Research Project: Development of Data Bases for Model Development and Field Testing of Crop Models in Mid-West Farms

Location: Adaptive Cropping Systems Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-21600-001-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2019
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
Develop data bases for model development from controlled environmental chamber studies, experimental station research plots, and grower’s fields. Use these data to refine and improve existing simulation models for corn, soybean, cotton, and potato crops. Evaluate these models under a range of environmental and management conditions in collaboration with growers in mid-west.

Approach:
Evaluate the knowledge gaps for Adaptive Cropping Systems Laboratory's crop and soil process models and design and conduct controlled environmental studies to develop data for model development. Model verifications, validation and application will be conducted using the data from mid-western states using the data from field trials at the experimental station research plots and from collaborating grower’s fields. After the validation, the models will be released to crop consultants and growers for application at the farm level to improve crop management by input optimization, reducing costs and improving profits to growers.
