Research Project: New Formulation for Biopesticides Based on Single Cell Encapsulation via Pickering Emulsions

Location: Fruit and Tree Nut Research

Project Number: 6042-22000-024-012-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2019
End Date: Jun 30, 2023

Objective:
1: Investigation and development of stable eco-friendly oil in water (o/w) Pickering emulsions. 2: Incorporation of conidia cells in the studied Pickering emulsion in a mode of single cell encapsulation. 3: Implementation of the Pickering emulsion with the incorporated conidia as a formulation of biopesticide. 4: Study the Biological functionality of the studied formulations on diverse pest-plant ecosystems.

Approach:
Optimization of a micro-encapsulation technology for entomopathogenic fungi will be implemented via nanotechnology. Subsequently the formulation will be tested for improved insect pest control against pecan weevil and beet armyworm.
