Research Project: Determining the Thermal Preference of Weanling Pigs

Location: Livestock Behavior Research

Project Number: 5020-32000-014-057-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2019
End Date: Jul 31, 2023

Objective:
To evaluate the behavioral thermal preference of weanling pigs.

Approach:
This study is designed to determine, from the weanling pig's perspective, what temperatures are preferred, and those that are avoided. The study will be performed over a 1-year period to determine what temperatures newly weaned pigs prefer based on their behavior using a custom designed thermocline that allows for thermal preference testing.
