Mission:
The Urbana, IL Location is comprised of two Management Units: Global Change and Photosynthesis Research and Soybean/Maize Germplasm, Pathology, and Genetics. The Global Change and Photosynthesis Unit identifies and modifies rate-limiting factors of the photosynthetic process, including response to environmental stress and global change. The Unit also develops improved pest management systems that are efficient and environmentally safe. The Soybean/Maize Germplasm unit is responsible for the USDA Soybean Germplasm Collection and the Maize Genetics Cooperation Stock Center and research to evaluate and utilize accessions in these collections. The unit identifies genetic diversity in the genus Glycine to improve yield, modify seed composition, and enhance pest resistance and investigates pathogen/plant interactions to develop effective management strategies.
