USDA-ARS Research Weather Network
headline bar

Weather is one of the key factors that influences management decisions affecting nursery field operations.  In recognition of this, the Application Technology Research Unit began development of a Research Weather Network at various locations in Northern Ohio in 2000.  In cooperation with local production nurseries and Ohio State University's (OSU) Ohio Agricultural Research Development Center (OARDC), the ARS Research Weather Network is providing data used to predict and monitor local weather events that directly impact issues related to the nursery industry.

The USDA weather network is integrated into the OSU/OARDC network, bringing the total number of stations to 16, 14 of which are automated.

Meteorological measurements from the USDA stations are accessible as 15 minute average values.  Currently, the Madison (Sunleaf Nursery) and Avon (Willoway Nursery) station values are updated every 15 minutes while values collected from Perry (Klyn Nursery) are updated every 4 hours.
