Genomics and Bioinformatics Research : USDA ARS

The USDA Agriculture Research Service has partnered with Alcorn State University and the University of Texas to help local science educators become more effective and so motivate their students to continue their studies in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. With funds from a National Science Foundation grant, K-12 students within Washington County, MS, and the surrounding areas participate in “hands-on” plant molecular biology/biotechnology labs at their schools. Moreover, students enjoy field trips to the JWDSRC campus, including scientific demonstrations, workshops, and tours of the Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Unit.
