Interpretive Summary: The Red Palm Mite is a major invasive pest of palms in the Americas. The interest on the red palm mite associated with palm trees is high due to its increased spread throughout the continent. It is present in several states of Mexico, including Mexico City. It is now at the border with California and Arizona; in the USA is at the moment located in some areas of Florida State. Research scientists, growers, USDA-APHIS and border control agents will use this information for the identification of these aggressive worldwide pests.

Technical Abstract: Raoiella indica or red palm mite, is reported for the first time from Mexico City. It has now been found at 2244 masl which is the highest elevation documented for the species. Most of the specimens were collected from the underside of Canarian palms (Phoenix canariensis Chabaud) fronds, however it is registered for the first time on the upper side as well. Some specimens were collected also from robellini palms (Phoenix roebelenii O'Brien).
