Interpretive Summary: As a facility with ABSL-4Ag capacity, NBAF is the first of its kind in the country. It is also the largest of its kind. These features make NBAF of significant interest to professionals in the world of biorisk management. These professionals work at government laboratories, universities, biotech companies and other organizations to prevent exposure to and release of infectious materials from the workplace. A regional professional association, the Front Range Biological Safety Association has asked NBAF to provide a brief update on the construction of facility and NBAF representatives would like to discuss the approach that biorisk management professionals are taking to ensuring that NBAF is a safe working environment - for the occupants and the community. Technical Abstract: Interest in the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility abounds in the biorisk management community due to the scope and scale of biorisk management measures implemented in the facility design and operation. Representatives from NBAF have been asked to speak at the fall meeting of the Front Range Biological Safety Association, an affiliate of ABSA International (formerly the American Biological Safety Association) about the status of construction at the facility, the role of the NBAF Biorisk Management Unit and the Highly Reliabile Organizing approach that NBAF is taking to operations.
