Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A Foreword was written for a new book on electropenetrography (EPG) of feeding behaviors of plant-feeding heteropteran (true bug) insects. The Foreword told the story of the development of various types of instruments through three generations of technology improvement, leading to the new, AC-DC version that made possible a rapid increase in applications of EPG to Heteroptera. The Foreword also summarized the topics and descriptions in each of the chapters of the book. It concluded that the advancements in protocols and technology described would greatly speed learning about important new heteropteran pests, and development of new and novel pest management tactics.
