Cultural practices and recent efforts to manage viruses have evolved in recent years to utilize all relevant certified seed inspection information, utilization of crop borders and the development of virus management plans. Implementation of crop borders reduces potato virus Y (PVY) spread. Varieties with poor PVY symptom expression complicate virus management efforts. The need for standardization of disease tolerances and virus management plans are discussed and Europe's efforts to control potato virus YN are discussed.
