Interpretive Summary: This chapter discusses dallisgrass and several related species. The chapter provides information on the distribution, adaptation, taxonomy, cytology, reproductive biology, and breeding history of common dallisgrass and several other forms of the grass. Other characteristics of dallisgrass, such as its importance to agriculture, management, productivity, and the diseases and insects that attack the plant and limit production also are discussed. Many of these same characteristics also are presented for several other grasses that are related to dallisgrass. These include brown seeded paspalum, brunswickgrass, atra paspalum, and seashore paspalum. All of these grasses, except for seashore paspalum, are grown primarily as forage for livestock. Seashore paspalum is a salt tolerant grass that is grown as turf grass in saline areas. Technical Abstract: This chapter discusses dallisgrass and several related species.
