Objective:
Monitor potential incursion of Ug99 and other virulent stem rust races, and exotic strains of cereal rusts into the United States through sentinel plots.

Approach:
1) Establish and maintain rust sentinel plots of wheat, barley, oat, and rye lines in Lower Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bent areas in southern Texas; 2) observe and report rust development; 3) collect rust samples for race-typing by ARS.
