Objective:
Objective 1: Maintain highly technical equipment essential for monitoring and controlling building access, airflow, and critical scientific instrumentation. Employ skilled and trained staff to support this sophisticated infrastructure.
Objective 2: Ensure strict biosecurity by employing staff trained to maintain all systems for decontaminating experimental and building waste.
Objective 3: Provide the highest standards of animal care and welfare while upholding strict biosecurity by employing well-trained animal care staff.
Objective 4: Maintain critical infrastructure to ensure continuity of service for all utilities and crucial systems.
Approach:
The proposed project is relevant to the following component and problem statements of the NP103 Action Plan: Component 5 (Improving the Health and Resilience of Chickens and Turkeys) Problem Statement 5A (Leverage the host-pathogen interaction to better protect chicken and turkey flocks), Problem Statement 5B (Develop and evaluate tools for controlling and preventing infectious disease in chickens and turkeys, ensuring alignment with end-user needs and practical application), Problem Statement 5C (Discover factors that increase risk and spread of disease to enhance control and biosecurity strategies) and Problem Statement 5D (Provide needed research in support of regulatory and industry-led livestock disease control, outbreak response and prevention programs). This project will directly address the needs of the poultry industry to develop control strategies for multiple priority pathogens.
