Objective:
In collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management colleagues:
- Through the BLM-led Seeds of Success program, acquire, conserve, maintain, characterize, evaluate, and distribute native plant genetic resources, and their associated information.
Approach:
There is increasing interest and need to utilize native plant germplasm for restoration after wildfires and other disturbances. Native plant germplasm also fill gaps in genetic diversity coverage in National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) collections, in particular for native crop wild relatives. The USDA-ARS Western Regional Plant Introduction Station (WRPIS) will acquire, process, and catalogue seed collections made by the BLM Seeds of Success (SOS) project. Passport collection data will be entered into the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) database.
