Location: Crop Production and Pest Control Research
Project Number: 5020-21220-009-012-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2026
End Date: Aug 31, 2027
Objective:
1. Genetic mapping of genes in soybean that control protein levels in soybean seeds leading towards soybean with high protein levels
2. Combination of high protein traits with other valuable seed traits, including enhanced nutritional energy in meal.
3. Characterization of seed development in high protein soybean to understand biochemical and molecular mechanisms that result in increased seed protein.
Approach:
Cooperator will work with soybean high and low protein mutants to introgress traits into improved germplasm and evaluate agronomic properties of these mutants. High protein and high oil traits will be combined with other mutant alleles from population to combine a superior soybean meal trait with improved oil traits (high oleic, etc.).
