Research Project: Northwest and Alaska Agricultural Science to Improve Nutrient Efficiency, Crop Modeling, Selection and Soil

Location: Northwest Sustainable Agroecosystems Research

Project Number: 2090-11000-010-036-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2025
End Date: May 31, 2029

Objective:
Objective: aid farmer decision-making by developing science-based, region-specific practices, information, tools and technologies that improve nutrient use efficiency, crop selection and soil health.

Approach:
In dryland cropping systems of the inland Pacific Northwest and in agricultural regions of Alaska, develop and improve integrated and economically viable cropping system practices designed to: (1) provide crop modeling assessment and projections for various crop options to aid economic decisions of farmers; (2) assess soil health to improve diagnosis of soil factors limiting crop production; and (3) evaluate novel crop nutrient sources to reduce fertilizer costs and improve nutrient use efficiencies.
