Objective:
Working in conjunction with Oklahoma Department of Enviornmental Quality, Garver and the City of Norman Utilities determine a process that will allow for site appropriate contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) monitoring for Indirect Potable Reuse permitting.
Approach:
Collect primary effluent samples from the Norman Water Reclamation Facility after disinfection throughout the year to ensure that all seasons and flow regimes are captured. Sampling continuously throughout the week will allow the capture of diurnal fluctuations and differences due to the day of week. In addition, collection of samples during the four climatic seasons will capture variation due to variable population dynamics (school in session versus school of session) and the effect of climatic conditions on the operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
Samples will be prepared in Norman for shipment to the USDA-ARS US Arid Land Agricultural Research Center (ALARC) in Maricopa, AZ for analysis.
CEC analysis will be conducted on samples eluted from the SPE cartridges and the raw water depending on the concentration of CEC found in the effluent.
