Objective:
1. Develop sorghum simulation model and improve wheat and rye simulation models.
2. Using simulation models and databases, develop irrigation and other management practices to address salinity and water stress in corn, soybean and sorghum grown in the Delmarva region.
Approach:
ARS and the Cooperator will work to develop models of sorghum and rice growth and development based on the existing maize and wheat models. Adapt models for flooded and saline soils. Develop databases to test the ARS model for wheat and rye against local conditions. Use the models and databases to develop best management practices for irrigation management to improve water use efficiency and address effects of salinity on crop yields in the Delmarva region. Cooperator experiment station personnel will provide contacts with relevant stakeholders.
