Research Project: Modeling Watershed Processes for Assessing Wetland Ecosystem Services

Location: Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-13610-030-094-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 31, 2025
End Date: Jul 21, 2028

Objective:
Our objectives are to design and develop innovative, cutting-edge tools for monitoring ecosystem services provided by private land conservation easements at a variety of scales, but particularly regional and national scales.

Approach:
We approach these goals in two ways: novel remote sensing tools and spatial numerical ecosystem modeling. These tools are versatile and can be used in a variety of ecosystem services for accurate and informative adaptive management and policies. Specifically, our focus is on the development and implementation of remote sensing and modeling tools for: 1) Topographic Parametrization 2) Habitat Detection and Delineation 3) Sustainable Long-Term Monitoring: Integrated Lab and Field 4) Applied Ecosystem Service Impact Models: Habitat Quality and Risk Services 5) Applied Ecosystem Service Impact Models: Sediment Retention Services 6) Coupled Integrated Ecosystem models: Water Quality Services
