Objective:
Link extension specialists in various campus departments with county staff, students in urban locales (Polk, Johnson, Black Hawk and Dubuque Counties),state and national agencies, and farmers to advance urban agriculture.

Approach:
The project will utilize: 1) Demonstration sites showcasing innovative nutrient and pest management techniques, food safety practices, and marketing strategies; 2) Field Days with adjoining farmers’ market tours; and 3) A series of webinars, videos, and pamphlets covering critical topics, and translated for Spanish, Burmese, and Congolese audiences - the most prominent groups of immigrant urban farmers in Iowa. Specifically, ARS PI will contribute to the above approach by performing the "testing your soil and potential remediation recommendation" module which would include webinar/podcast, pamphlets, and, potentially, videos.
