Research Project: Northwest and Alaska Climate Science to Enable Climate-Smart Decision-Making

Location: Northwest Sustainable Agroecosystems Research

Project Number: 2090-11000-010-012-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: May 31, 2027

Objective:
Enable climate-smart decision-making by developing science-based, region-specific practices, information, tools and technologies for agricultural and natural resource managers, and provide assistance where possible to enhance adoption and implementation of the same.

Approach:
In dryland cropping systems of the inland Pacific Northwest and in agricultural regions of Alaska, develop integrated and economically viable cropping systems that are designed to: adapt to and mitigate climate change, reduce pest infestations, improve soil health, and provide environmental services. Associated efforts are to develop precision conservation practices to enhance soil health, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase carbon sequestration and nutrient-use efficiencies.
