Research Project: Objective-based Climate Ready Reforestation Workshop

Location: Sustainable Agricultural Water Systems Research

Project Number: 2032-12610-002-012-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2022
End Date: Oct 15, 2023

Objective:
Forest ecosystems are undergoing rapid change, particularly following disturbances such as wildfire. In an effort to ensure that post-disturbance forest management aligns with forest needs under a changing climate regime, the California Climate Hub with work with the Cooperator to support climate-ready solutions for reforestation.

Approach:
The Cooperator will work with the Climate Hub to develop and execute a reforestation workshop for forest landowners, state and federal forest managers. Topics may include addressing barriers in the reforestation pipeline, incorporating climate change into reforestation design and coping with large and high severity wildfires. The proposed format would consist of several plenary talks punctuated with a suite smaller group size and topically specific breakouts. It is anticipated that a summarized report from the event will be developed and made available to participants.
