Objective:
Develop continued functionality and expanded content of a publicly accessible comprehensive cotton database with the purpose of preserving and disseminating information that contributes to an increased understanding and improvement of cotton.

Approach:
The CottonGen database was developed and maintained by a mutually acceptable organization. It is jointly managed and supported by the Collaborator and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS). All technical efforts involving the development and maintenance of the database will be the responsibility of the contracted organization. The Collaborator and the ARS will jointly identify the database needs of the research community. They will determine the content and functionality of the database with consideration of CottonGen steering committee input. The CottonGen steering committee will assist in database oversight activities and provide guidance and feedback as to its content.
