Objective:
Investigate the viability of managed aquifer recharge in the Lower Mississippi River Basin.
Determine testable designs for infiltration gallery. Investigate options for site
choice based on sub-surface inventory. Design a monitoring protocol to determine
utility of infiltration gallery.
Approach:
Use existing information from United States Geological Survey (USGS) and other sources to determine optimal locations for infiltration gallery locations. Consideration will be given to sites near reservoirs where existing relationships have been established for collaboration with land owner/farmers. Work with USDA-NRCS to design infiltration galleries. Calculate design flows of systems. Install 2-6 systems and monitor their function for a minimum of 2 seasons. Analyze data, publish and present findings.
