Research Project: Support of the Dogwood Collection at the U.S. National Arboretum

Location: Public Horticulture and Engagement Unit

Project Number: 8020-21000-155-012-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2019
End Date: Mar 31, 2024

Objective:
The objective of this agreement is to allow the Woman’s National Farm and Garden Association (WNFGA) to provide funds to ARS for an intern to address maintenance needs in the Dogwood Collection at the U.S. National Arboretum (USNA) and to provide funds for infrastructure improvements and addition of new plants to the Dogwood Collection at the USNA.

Approach:
The intern involved in support of the Dogwood Collection conducts a variety of gardening and other maintenance tasks such as watering, weeding, mowing, mulching, and pruning. Infrastructure improvements are needed to improve the aesthetic quality, accessibility, and safety of the Dogwood Collection. New dogwoods are planted to increase the diversity of germplasm maintained in the Dogwood Collection.
