Who works at APDL?

APDL employs Parasitologists, Zoologists, Immunologists, Systematists, Entomologists, Microbiologists, and Research Molecular Biologists. APDL scientists have advanced degrees in Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Zoology, and Entomology. APDL's support staff includes Animal Scientists, Biologists, Biological Technicians, and office staff.

Often scientists conducting research in the area of parasitology have earned degrees in one of a variety of biological disciplines, including Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Entomology.  Scientists studying animal parasites apply technology learned in these fields to understand various aspects of host-parasite relationships.  A wide range of academic study areas are required to work in the field of animal parasitology, including biochemistry, microbiology, veterinary science, as well as advanced courses in statistics, mathematics, and chemistry.  Graduate degrees can lead you to more sophisticated research and development positions. In high school take as many courses in math, science, and English as possible. Also, take courses in computer science and communications.

At present, there are no job openings available in APDL.  However, APDL scientists regulary hire high school and undergraduate students for summer internships.  Please contact ARS Human Resources Department for information on the various summer programs available.  Also, feel free to contact APDL scientists directly for possible internships.
