Research Project: Facilitating NCWMAC Technology Transfer of Atlantic Salmon Germplasm via the Maine Aquaculture Association

Location: National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center

Project Number: 8030-10600-001-030-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2026
End Date: Dec 31, 2030

Objective:
The purpose of the cooperative research project is to facilitate technology transfer from the USDA, ARS National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center (NCWMAC) Atlantic salmon breeding program to industry stakeholders. The technology transfer will be in partnership with the Cooperator, an aquaculture industry association located in Hallowell, ME, acting through the Agricultural Research Service (ARS).

Approach:
This Agreement will identify the general terms that will guide technology transfer of Atlantic salmon from the NCWMAC research program located in Franklin, ME. The Cooperator will be notified by the NCWMAC regarding the availability of germplasm (eggs, milt, juveniles, subadult, and/or adult salmon) each spawning season and will assist ARS in transferring the technology to U.S. aquaculture producers.
