Objective:
1. To design and publish the National Biochar Atlas, a decision support toolkit that allows users to pair biochar properties with enduses to address resource concerns in agriculture and beyond.
2. Develop a virtual train-the-trainer program to help disseminate information on the agricultural use of biochar-based amendments.
Approach:
The Cooperator will contract experts to assist with the design and publication of the the National Biochar Atlas using the PNW Biochar Atlas as a template. All data and algorithms will be provided to the cooperator through MTAs and other technology transfer agreements to be used in the design. The Cooperator will host the newly designed module at a location that is accessible to the public.
To help implement practices recommended by the decision support tool, the Cooperator will develop and publish train-the-trainer virtual modules that 1)provide a basic understanding of biochar-based amendments; 2)offer instruction on applications methods; 3) demonstrate how to use the tool to find an application rate; and 4)offer information on cost-share programs that offset the costs associated with biochar application.
