Research Project: Protection of California Citrus from Citrus Yellow Vein Clearing

Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics Research

Project Number: 2034-22000-015-013-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 8, 2025
End Date: Jul 7, 2027

Objective:
Objective 1. The objective of this project is to evaluating the geographical spread of the disease through GIS mapping of infected trees, postulate the extent of Citrus Yellow Vine Clearing Virus (CYVCV) spread by insect vectors or propagation of infected trees. Objective 2. Re-sample selected trees and test for other graft-transmissible virus or virus-like agents.

Approach:
GIS mapping and analysis will be used to determine geographical spread patterns of Citrus Yellow Vine Clearing Virus (CYVCV). Leaf petioles and peduncles will be collected from citrus trees and subjected to High Throughput Sequencing (HTS). A BLAST search of the sequence data will be conducted to look for all citrus graft transmitted pathogens.
