Research Project: Measuring Production on North American Rangelands

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 3050-21600-001-015-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2025
End Date: Aug 1, 2026

Objective:
The objective of this agreement is to conduct research on and provide decision making tools relating drought to rangeland forage production responses to enhance producer access to drought mitigation measures.

Approach:
Cooperators will explore the long-term relationships between drought and production, as measured in the Rangeland Analysis Platform. Once these relationships are developed, the cooperators will then develop an approach for assessing departure from normal specifically to identify areas where rangeland production is decreased due to drought. This process will be used to develop a web tool for ARS stakeholders to evaluate production losses due to drought to enact drought mitigation measures and apply for drought response assistance where appropriate.
