Objective:
The Cooperator and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS or Agency) desire to enter into this Agreement for the purpose of supporting research to be carried out at ARS and Cooperator facilities. ARS desires the Cooperator to provide dried microalgae biomass for the purpose of carrying out research of mutual interest, within the Franklin, Maine location, namely the Atlantic salmon feeding trials to assess fish health and production efficiency when fed diets amended with microalgae.
Approach:
The Agency Location is engaged in research addressing cold water marine finfish improvement and production. Incorporating microalgae to salmonid diets will allow the industry expansion while maintaining high product quality. This agreement will suppport objective 4: Optimize nutrient utilization and production practices in Atlantic salmon aquaculture of Improving North American Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Production
