Objective:
The National Bio and Agro Defense Facility (NBAF) is in Manhattan, KS has been completed and science will include research on transboundary animal diseases. Preparations are underway for the transition of the scientific programs to NBAF. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has assigned the Foreign Animal Diseases Research Unit (FADRU), Foreign Arthropod-Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit (FABADRU), Zoonotic Emerging Diseases. Research Unit (ZEDRU), and the Biological Development Module (BDM) as the science units located at NBAF. The NBAF science units have established cooperative projects with the Cooperator. This work will continue at least during the science standup period. Additional equipment is needed for increase capacity and to meet additional ARS science unit assigned research needs.

Approach:
The cooperator has identified a core laboratory that will allow ARS researchers to conduct assigned research but will require some facility enhancement and additional equipment. The cooperator will acquire equipment with accessories such refrigerators, freezers, cell culture incubators, 6 ft biosafety cabinet, two 4 ft biosafety cabinets, table top centrifuges, high speed centrifuge, and an ultra speed centrifuge.
