Objective:
The objective of the agreement is to support the conference and workshop to identify globally applicable strategies to sustain rangeland ecosystem services and livelihoods in the face of global change and disseminate recent findings, tools, and techniques to a global audience.
Approach:
Both parties are actively engaged in independent operations to synthesize scientific research, develop technologies, and disseminate information about science and technologies to a wide range of stakeholders involved in managing or obtaining products from rangelands. The primary purpose of the agreement is to construct the foundation for organizing and hosting an international congress where the latest scientific information can synthesized and communicated, including strategies for rangeland evaluation and monitoring, forage production and utilization, use of new forage cultivars, livestock management techniques, water management, restoration, climate adaptation and mitigation, rangeland governance, capacity building, renewable energy development, wildlife management, tourism, and alternative livelihoods. The parties agree that meeting the objectives of this project will strengthen and enhance ongoing research to sustain multiple rangeland ecosystem services in the face of climate change and land use change. It is the intention of the parties to this agreement that the conference activities shall affirm their mutual interest in cooperative exchanges and shall be for the mutual benefit of the people of the United States and participants of the International Rangeland Congress. The grant supports research conducted under National Programs 216 (Sustainable Agricultural Systems Research) and 215 (Grass, Forage, and Rangeland Agroecosystems) and will support both the parent project Objective 5 (Develop tools and techniques for managing and integrating ground-based assessment and monitoring data, remotely sensed and digital spatial data, and connect data to interpretive frameworks and models to develop actionable interpretations for land management) as well as support goals of the International Climate Hub.
