Research Project: Immersive Internship Experiences for Federal Agency Careers

Location: Operations

Project Number: 3022-32000-013-013-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 31, 2023
End Date: Jan 31, 2026

Objective:
Through this cooperation agreement, we will administer an internship program that provides a customizable experience designed to recruit students interested in STEM careers in biological and chemical sciences, engineering, animal sciences, computer and data science, and cyber security. Each year, the program will support undergraduate and graduate students underrepresented in STEM fields for an immersive internship experience. Through this program, we aim to increase the diversity of early career professionals entering careers in Federal agencies with STEM related priorities at the National Bio and Agrodefense Facility at Manhattan, KS.

Approach:
NBAF is collaborating with BioKansas in an Immersive Internship Experience program. Students selected for this program will complete either a 10-week summer internship or a 15-week semester long internship. This full-time internship program begins with an orientation session for both the mentors and interns. During this time students will support several operational and scientific units at NBAF. Their experience will include seminars, networking opportunities and several training sessions including future career opportunities.
