Research Project: Development of Improved Soil Sampling Design Using Geophysical Layers

Location: Agroecosystem Management Research

Project Number: 3042-21600-001-004-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2021
End Date: May 31, 2025

Objective:
To develop a new desktop software tool using geospatial data from electrical conductivity surveys and digital elevation maps to identify smart sampling locations for monitoring of soil organic carbon and other soil properties.

Approach:
Use published algorithms to develop a new desktop software to generate directed soil sampling designs for specific locations based on geospatial data and a user-specified sampling density. Upon completion, the jointly-developed software will be hosted on a USDA platform where tools will be freely available to the general public. The project will also address improving the workflow of electrical conductivity data collection and processing using cloud storage.
