Research Project: Incorporating Trechnites Into a Psylla Biocontrol Program

Location: Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research

Project Number: 2092-22430-003-002-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2019
End Date: Jun 30, 2023

Objective:
Improve methods for monitoring the adult parasite and for estimating percent parasitism. Define the relationship between counts of adult Trechnites and parasitism of psylla. Screen IPM and organic chemicals for effects on parasite survival and life history. Examine native psyllids from multiple locations for Trechnites.

Approach:
Conduct field trials to test the efficiency of a prototype trap for monitoring adult parasitoids. Conduct field and lab studies to determine the relationship between adult parasitoids and parasitism rates in orchards. Lboratory trials will examine non-target effects of commercial insecticides on Trechnites. Field surveys will identify non-pests hosts of Trechnites in native habitats.
